CLOSED: Volunteers (ages 14 to 18)

Job Description:

Summer volunteers are an integral part of Art In The Park. Many of our campers return as volunteers as a stepping stone to becoming a camp counsellor. Volunteers assist at the artist stations and also help to run sports and games, arts and crafts activities and sand and water play. Volunteering is a great way to build on leadership, communication and work skills before transitioning into employment.

Requirements:

  • volunteers must be 14 years of age or older (no exceptions)

  • volunteers can apply for a maximum of 2 weeks over the summer

  • volunteers must commit to working all 5 days of the week, Monday to Friday

  • volunteer shift is 9AM to 4PM with a 1 hour lunch (30 hours/week)

  • volunteers must adhere to our COVID-19 Safety Plan

  • If selected, the following requirements will be in effect:

    • attendance in a mandatory volunteer orientation in June (for July volunteers) and July (for August volunteers) - date tbd 2022

    • volunteers under the age of 18 must have written consent from their legal guardian

Camp Counsellors AND Early Childhood Educators (RECE)

Job Description:

Counsellors and Early Childhood Educators are responsible for running designated activity areas (crafts, sports, games, sand/water, etc.). Counsellors and Early Childhood Educators also supervise lunch time activities and swim with the campers on a daily basis. All staff are expected to come up with their own week-long or summer-long projects, engage the campers, monitor for safety and manage volunteers who may be assisting.

Requirements:

  • Students or recent graduates in Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Work, Recreation and Leisure or Teacher candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. (If hired, ECE Graduates must be registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators Ontario and submit a copy of their registration card on first day of employment.

  • An Interest in the arts, music, drama, gardening, sports are an asset.

  • Must be able to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs.

  • Must have a minimum two years’ experience working with/caring for children.

  • Must be able to speak and write English (being fluent in multiple languages is a plus).

  • Must commit to working all 8 weeks of summer camp, Monday to Friday.

  • Must attend mandatory staff orientation (last two weeks of June).

  • Must adhere to our COVID-19 Safety Plan.

  • If hired, the following mandatory documentation will be required:

    • A valid Police Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Screening, dated within 6 months (paid by candidate.)

    • A valid first aid certification: Emergency or Standard First Aid with CPR (paid by candidate)

    • An up-to-date immunisation record (including TB test/Tetanus/Diphtheria/Polio/COVID-19) OR affidavit

    • A doctor's note stating that candidate is “healthy and physically able to work with children” required to be on file on first day of employment (paid by candidate).

Responsibilities:

  • Research, develop & implement weekly programs that promote and enhance creativity in 6 to 12 year olds for the arts, dramatic play, cognitive play, emotional awareness, music appreciation, science & nature

  • Prepare and maintain a healthy and safe environment. This includes daily site set up and take down, medium to heavy lifting, moving equipment in and out of storage shed, disposing of garbage, turning the sand etc. Other tasks as per job description.

  • Obtain appropriate supplies for planned activities checks that the activity area, toys and equipment are safe and sanitary; set up activity area and tidy same.

  • Work independently and within a multi-disciplinary team setting managing time & workload effectively according to schedule.

  • May need to discuss children’s progress/behaviour/health with parents/designated guardian answering questions as needed.

  • Provide children of varying abilities with a physically safe and emotionally supportive inclusive environment.

  • Administer first aid as required.

  • Apply fair, progressive and consistent disciplinary methods in accordance with the program's philosophy and the Day Nurseries Act.

  • Maintain awareness of policy changes. Adhering to policies set by the Board of Directors.

  • Participate in own performance review (mid-summer and end of summer).

  • May be required to work irregular hours (for fund-raising events, after hours staff meetings and training sessions), assist with non-routine situations, work in conditions involving exposure to bodily fluids, infectious diseases, frequent high noise levels & occasional inclement weather.

Leader In Training (LIT) Coordinator **NEW**

This is the first year we will be offering this program, so it is a great opportunity to build something from scratch.

Job Description:

Leadership Coordinator is responsible for planning and running designated leadership activities for campers ages 12-13. Leadership Coordinator will also be responsible for supervising LIT campers during the day. All staff are expected to come up with their own week-long projects, engage the campers, monitor for safety and manage volunteers who may be assisting.

Job Description:

Artists are responsible for running their own station, in a specific discipline (woodworking, textiles, music, jewellery-making, drama, dance, sculpture, painting, etc). All staff are expected to come up with their own week-long or summer-long projects, engage the campers, monitor for safety and manage volunteers who may be assisting. The Artist role is considered a "senior staff" position. Candidates must have a strong background in the arts, but also demonstrated experience in working with children in a camp-based setting.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated artistic ability, which could include including visual /fine arts, sculpture, dance, theatre/drama, puppetry, jewellery, gardening, etc.

  • BFA graduates or candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

  • Must be able to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs.

  • Must have a minimum two years’ experience working with/caring for children.

  • Must be able to speak and write English (being fluent in multiple languages is a plus).
