Artists Needed for Queen West Outdoor Art Camp - Summer 2019!

**Interviews February 19-March 1**          

 

Spend your summer outdoors in a lovely, shaded area in Trinity Bellwoods Park, home to the beloved, art-based Art In the Park day camp for campers ages 6 to 12.  A variety of art-focused activities are offered by local artists and programming staff. The children participate at their own pace on activities ranging from wood-working, sand & water play, ceramics, jewelry making, games, drama, gardening, painting and music.  There is also daily swimming in the Trinity Bellwoods Community Centre. This is a great opportunity for artists who love kids!

When: The camp runs for 6 weeks from July 2-August 16, with training from June 17-28.

Schedule: 8am-4pm or 10am-6pm (or minimum 4 hours per day)

Pay: $22/hour

 

Job Duties:  There are 5-6 outdoor, artist-run stations.  We are looking for artists to run stations such as: woodworking, textiles, music, jewelry-making, drama, dance, film, structures, painting.  There is no electricity on-site.  This is a senior position, meaning you will be in charge of your station and are expected to come up with your own week-long or summer-long projects without outside help, running and managing these stations, engaging the campers, and managing summer staff who may help you at your station.  You should have some experience working with children.  This is a role that requires lots of initiative and you must be proactive in encouraging children to come to your station, since you do not have a dedicated group of campers.  You will also need to be proactive in procuring materials for your station. 

Requirements, if hired:

  • candidate must have valid Police Reference Check

  • up-to-date immunization records (including TB test/Tetanus/Diptheria/Polio OR affidavit

  • Must be able to clearly speak and write English

  • Minimum two years’ experience working with children

  • Artistic ability including visual /fine arts, dance, theater, puppetry, sports, gardening, etc.

  • Speaking a second language is a plus

  • Valid first aid certification

Summer Counsellors Needed for Art in the Park 2019!

Spend your summer outdoors in a lovely, shaded area in Trinity Bellwoods Park, home to the beloved, art-based Art in the Park.  Art in the Park has been running for 25 years and welcomes back many former campers as summer staff.  The camp offers wood-working, sand & water play, ceramics, jewelry making, games, drama, gardening, painting and music to 6-12 year olds.  There is also daily swimming in the Trinity Bellwoods Community Centre. This is a great opportunity for anyone who loves kids and the arts, as well as ECE students.

When: June 17-August 30 (11 weeks)

Schedule: 8am-4pm or 10am-6pm

Age: preferably 18+

Pay: $16/hour

 

Job Duties:  You will be assisting artists operating the arts activities, interacting and playing with the children, helping to plan activities, as well as helping with daily site set-up and take-down, disinfecting toys, shopping for supplies, laundry, snacks, dishwashing, sweeping, and generally keeping the site tidy.  This is a physically active job and we need everyone to pitch in. 

Requirements, if hired:

  • candidate must have valid Police Reference Check

  • up-to-date immunization records (including TB test/Tetanus/Diptheria/Polio OR affidavit

  • Must be able to clearly speak and write English

  • Priority given to those who have some experience with kids

  • Artistic ability including visual /fine arts, dance, theater, puppetry, sports, gardening etc.

  • Valid first aid certification preferred
