The Leader In Training program is designed for youth who are very interested in working with children, who may be interested in working as a volunteer or camp counsellor in the future. LIT Camp will promote development of leadership through team-based activities and leadership opportunities. To ensure success in this program, we will connect our LIT campers with a counselor mentor. Our goal is to create a safe and welcoming learning environment where LIT campers can feel accepted, find their own voice, and become engaged in their community. LIT candidates will be encouraged to apply for Volunteer opportunities at AITP once they turn 14 years of age.
Leader In Training is for campers aged 13 - 14 years who are interested in volunteering or working as a camp counsellor in future years. To be eligible for this program, campers must be or be turning 13 or 14 in 2026 (born in 2011, 2012 or 2013).
The LIT program operates Monday to Friday, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. To maximize the benefits of the program, we encourage youth to attend arrive no later than 9:30 am each day. Three 2-week sessions are offered through the summer. The same content is provided in each of the three sessions.
If you prefer to mix & match (e.g. sign up for Part 1 of Session A and Part 2 of Session B) you may do so at the time of registration.
Each morning, L.I.T. campers meet off-site to do Leadership specific programming, usually from 9:30 to 11:30 am. Some examples of topics to be covered include: Communication Skills and Customer Service, Resume and Cover Letter Writing, Goal Setting, Behavior management, Program planning, Professionalism, and other topics as dictated by the group.
After their lunch break, L.I.T. campers can apply their knowledge hands-on, by working with a staff mentor.
L.I.T. campers will be called upon to assist with camp activities (for example, helping to distribute craft supplies, assisting staff with running games, helping with the handwashing station, etc.)
By the end of the second week, L.I.T. campers will plan and run a camp-wide special event.
LIT Campers who complete the two week Program will receive:
A Certificate of Completion
A company letter stating competencies covered
An opportunity to volunteer at Art In The Park the following summer
The complete L.I.T. Program is 2 Parts covered over 2 weeks. To complete the program, campers must be registered in both a "Part 1" and a "Part 2". If you prefer to mix & match between sessions (e.g. A1 & B2), you may do so at the time of registration.
Campers must attend both Parts (Part 1 and Part 2) to receive the program certificate.
